AT&T U-verse review

We’ve had U-verse for a little more than a week. I’m the main media user in the house and I’m generally happy with the switch. We’re still adjusting to some of the differences, though, and I can’t say we adore everything about the system. Here’s a short review.
We love:

The Incredible Hulk

We went to see The Incredible Hulk last night, thanks in part to $14 of movie certificates I received for buying a $50 Kmart gift certificate (that I spent on groceries the following week). We would have paid full price for this one, but the savings helped.

Movie review: The Fall

On Sunday, we rode our bikes down to the Main Art Theatre to see The Fall. It’s a self-indulgent, gorgeous, odd, charming film that has (unsurprisingly) received mixed reviews. I’m still not certain what to feel about it.

A visit to Henry Ford’s Fair Lane

On Sunday, we drove down to Dearborn to tour Henry Ford’s Fair Lane estate. Normal admission price is $10; we got in free thanks to a Museum Adventure Pass we picked up at the library. Fair Lane is now owned by the University of Michigan. How was it? My husband took […]

Duran Duran live in Detroit

Twenty-five years ago, I would have given you a kidney — maybe both of them — for good tickets to see Duran Duran. I was given their Rio LP on my twelfth birthday and played it continuously until Seven and the Ragged Tiger replaced it on my turntable. My bedroom door was covered […]

In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan

I haven’t read Pollan’s previous book The Omnivore’s Dilemma, but having seen him interviewed, it struck me that he felt the need to apologize for not being vegan and justify his choice. I’m a proud and happy omnivore myself, so I began reading this book with a bias toward the content but against the author. […]
