Sunday daydream: Red Bull Air Race at Andiamo

Next weekend the Red Bull Air Race comes to Detroit. As a member of the Andiamo Restaurant Group Mille Grazie club, I recently received an e-mail inviting me to purchase passes to watch the races from their riverfront location, with meals included.

The reality: The event looks really cool, but I’m not a particular aficionado of planes or races. Never even been to an air show. I’d like to see the races, but I think I’d be bored if I went to both days. Plus, in our current financial situation, we might be able to swing a couple of $10 spectator seats across the river in Windsor, but even that would be an indulgence. TV coverage will do.

The daydream: We’d pick up a couple of two day passes for $600. We’d enjoy continental breakfast, an al fresco lunch, and a delicious Italian dinner at Andiamo. In between, we’d cheer for the pilots from our riverfront seats, enjoying the spring weather and taking part in welcoming an exciting new event to Detroit.
