Earned time off
We’ve reached the most obvious indicator that we’re done with home improvement projects for a while. Yep, we’re out of cash. We finished all but one item on our ambitious 2008 outdoor project list before the well ran dry, which I attribute to good planning, lots of research, and no shortage of hard work by everyone involved. Bravo, us!
It’s no fun to be broke, but there’s an upside: we’re forced to take some time off for the next 2-3 months while the bank account is replenished. Some people thought we were crazy for starting our projects so early in spring, but now that the weather is warming up, we’re done with the main part of the work and into maintenance mode. A little weeding and mowing, some watering and trimming, and we can relax and enjoy.
This means we’ll be looking for cheap summer entertainment, too. Luckily, there’s a lot to do around here and we’re not the most social of creatures, so our needs are simple. A good book and a hammock in the back yard will go far. Then there are free concerts, art shows, trips to Greenfield Village (we have a membership) and the zoo, biking over to the Dream Cruise, etc. An occasional movie matinee. We’ve got one more expensive event lined up — going to see Kids in the Hall next week — but then it’s back to pinching pennies.
